SCALARshift

About

Scalar Shift is a young and emerging design studio led by Sudhir Ambasana, founded at the intersection of architecture, with focus on furniture and lighting design.

The design methodology of the studio is primarily based on formal exploration of structure and geometry where the final outcome is heavily informed by the processes involved in the making of it. Rooted in a respect for hand craftsmanship, the studio works closely with skilled artisans whose knowledge of joinery, finishing, and construction informs every stage of production without concealing labor, but instead revealing it through exposed structure and tactile surfaces.

Based in Mumbai, the studio was started in October (2024). Since then, Scalar Shift has produced its first series of furniture design, titled ‘Moderne Variations’ which encompasses a range of different cabinets, tables and lighting devices.
